02/25/26: Yay Creature Kitchen!! + What Next?

So uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

First off:

thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou to everyone who believed in our vision for a creepy cozy animal game. We expected our game to at least do better than CHAIRS, but the reception has been far FAR beyond our wildest expectations. We read every review that comes in. We tune into as many twitch streams as we reasonably can. We’ve cried our collective eyes out from just how much people love the game.

And on top of that we’re also growing our army of PSIONIC RAT WARRIORS over on the Discord Server. We’re all pretty nervous when it comes to being perceived, but it’s been a blast being able to meet everyone. Your questions give us the big think and your fan art the good smiles.

Not so fast bucko.
We unfortunately cannot do sequels due to Axiom #3 (no sequels), but we definitely plan to add more to the base game in the form of a FREE CONTENT UPDATE. It’ll be a bit before we get around to it, both because we want to do something more substantial than like… one or two assets, and because we’re prioritizing on another thing we’ve had in production for the last few months

But is this next project creepy-cozy too?

Mmmm not exactly. You see, here at THE RATTED ZONES we’ve kept this pattern of alternating between two styles of game. First is the slow burn intricately crafted puzzle experience (Creature Kitchen and Sender), and the second is Experimental Dog Shit (CHAIRS). This next project will very much be leaning towards the latter category. We realize this might not be what some of our new fans signed up for exactly, but eventually the pendulum will swing the other way and patience enjoyers will be eating good.

ALSO BEFORE WE FORGET:

We will be adding Steam trading cards and point shop items within the next month or two. We also want to put out a release of the full soundtrack FOR FREE (WOW) a little bit after that so people can plug our nice ambient music and cool radio songs directly into their ear holes.

We’re glad you asked! We’ve alluded to our mysterious new project in a previous blog post, but have made huge strides in progressing the progress of development since then. While it’d be easy to simply tell you in plain english rat language, let us instead fill your eyeballs with some very out of context collection of screenshots for the purposes of SPECULATION and FUN:

Now when it comes to production schedule, it’ll probably be a bit before we can formally announce it (requires Steam page which requires teaser which requires capturing gameplay footage eewwwwwww), but our primary goal is to have a fancy new demo released around like…. September? In the meantime, we’ll be posting the occasionall wip (working in process) on our Discord and on bluesky probably? Just stay tuned and you’ll see.

We just want to reiterate that the reception to our funny animal game and the new influx of RAT FOLLOWERS has exceeded our wildest expectations. We started this collective 3(wow) years ago mainly as an outlet for a group of friends to hang out and create things together, and i guess we never expected our stuff to resonate with so so many of you. For now this is still technically a side gig for all of us, but your collective psionic energy will motivate us to make 1000 GAMEs. And each will be terrible/bad in a completely unique way!!
